IN PARTICULAR OLFACTORY FACTORY IS ABOUT SMELL EXPERIENCE
AND THE SMELLS THAT SURROUND YOU AND ME. _________________________________________________________________________

This endeavor started with a dream. Yes, my dreams have smells! I discovered this
while in the throes of a vivid nightmare in which smell (so to speak) was the
main ingredient. When I awoke I was shocked that the smell evaporated with waking consciousness. As with the sleepwalker who inhabits an imaginary landscape which,
upon awakening, transforms to mundane reality, so too did I smell things that only
existed in my dream. But where did these smells come from? Were they only the
residue of my corporeal existence? Was it possible that I could smell things that
I myself had not previously smelled in waking life? Perhaps there is a humongous psychic smell soup that we all may sip from time to time......in our dreams..........or otherwise. Needless to say I was inspired.

So in the spirit of homespun science, backyard tinkerers, and good old-fashioned
common sense, I decided that the first thing that was needed was a map of all the
smells in the world. Needless to say I was daunted by the colossal task and soon
realized that the only way to achieve it would be to ask every one of you to share
your own smell experiences. I could then know about smells in places that I myself
might not be able to know or even to imagine. In other words,

YOU COULD LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR NOSE KNOWS.
